Fruit of the Spirit
At Dove Taekwondo we believe that, like the tenets of Taekwondo, there are a set of character attributes that are central to every aspect of our every day lives. The Bible calls them the Fruit of the Spirit. We strive to teach these values to our students as we teach Taekwondo, as well as model them in our own behavior. Galations 5:22-23 (NLT) introduces us to the Fruit of the Spirit:
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Love
John 15: 12-13 (NLT) “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Love is unselfish and loyal. It is unconditional and is given freely. Love keeps on giving even when it is difficult. Look at Christ. He loved us to the ultimate end – Death on the cross, and it is in receiving this this love that we can gain the strength to love others. Paul sums the characteristics of love in his letter to the Corinthians:
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Love never dies.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (MSG)

Joy
“When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” John 15:10-11 (NLT)
Joy is an expression of delight and a real authentic happiness. Our joy comes from being in relationship with Christ and following his commands. It allows us to enjoy our relationship with Christ, His creation, others, and our circumstances with an expression of authentic happiness and delight. Having this kind Joy means that we can be happy on the inside even when things are not going great.

Peace
When we think about peace we often think of things like no more war or violence, or getting along with others. While these are correct, the peace of the spirit is quite different. The peace of the spirit is the inner calm and quiet that we receive when we surrender ourselves to God. Being at peace means being content with what God has given us and trusting him to provide. The peace that comes from God is calming beyond reason, can be found in any situation, and cannot be understood.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-8 (NLT).
